Statement of Financial
Condition
The Dixon Public Library has historically sought to operate within
a balanced budget. Annual real estate taxes and other tax revenues provide
only a portion of our total annual revenue. The remainder of our annual
revenue is raised through grants and the generosity of a wide number of
donors. A review of statewide library financial data shows that the Dixon
Public Library for a number of years has operated on significantly lower
annual revenue than other libraries of our size serving communities of our
size. The annual limit on available funds has prevented the Library from
replacing and upgrading many of the existing building systems that are now
nearing the end of their useful life. We will soon no longer be able to
defer some of these costs. Our anticipated future revenues will not be
sufficient to cover even a portion of these expenses without the rapid
depletion of our limited reserves.

How to Donate Books to the
Library
We love books
of all shapes and sizes,
but with book donations
we don't like surprises.
We'll take your books
for our shelf or to sell,
if they're in good condition
with no musty smell.
When you have books to bring,
just give us a call,
and we'll let you know
if there's room for them all.
Please don't be upset
if we have to say no.
We don't have much room
and some books have to go.
(We don't accept textbooks, magazines or
encyclopedias)

A Message from the Board of
Trustees
The Dixon Public Library is the heart and soul of the community. It
offers its assets at a bargain price to residents of all ages. Whether
through story hours, the Summer Reading Program, magazines, computers,
Internet, movies, music on CDs, and, of course, shelves and shelves of
books, the library is here to be used by everyone who takes the time to
explore its services.
How fortunate we are that the little lending library begun by the
city's firemen more than a century ago has grown into the full-service
institution we enjoy today. When Orris B. Dodge gave the money and land to
build the original building and Theron Cumins left thousands of dollars in
his estate to purchase books, they couldn't have imagined the extent of
information available to the public now. They did realize how important it
was to make books available to the public, opening worlds and lighting
imaginations.
While residents of the city of Dixon support the library through
property taxes, it is only through the generosity of generations of donors
that the library's collection continues to grow and new programs are
offered. Those who continue to realize the importance of the library to
the community can further enhance the offerings to library patrons by
remembering the library through memorials, in their own estates, as well
as by donations to special funds and volunteering in various ways. A vital
library is made more so by the enthusiastic supportof its patrons.
