OCLC - First Search within the library.
OCLC FirstSearch is an immense electronic
database service. Included in the Illinois State Library's
purchase are OCLC ArticleFirst, ClasePeriodica, Ebook, ECO, ERIC, GPO,
IllinoisCatalog, MEDLINE, OCLC PapersFirst, Proceedings, World Almanac,
WorldCatDissertations and WorldCat. Full-text documents are included in many of
these databases. OCLC FirstSearch gives Illinois library
patrons access to billions of records.
Click on the "List All Databases" tab on the FirstSearch home page for
more information about these databases.
To place Interlibrary Loan requests via WorldCat
select the WorldCat or Illinois Catalog database from the list of
databases in the drop down menu or from the list in the Databases tab.
(If you choose to search the Illinois Catalog Database, be sure to set
the "Limit to:" option to "All Illinois Libraries" if this is what you
want to search. We borrow from all lending libraries in Illinois.)
Select the Advance Search if you prefer. Find the item you want to
borrow, open the record for that item (click on the title link) and
click the "Borrow this item from another library (Interlibrary Loan)"
link. Fill out the online form and Submit.
OCLC-First Search from home. Dixon Public Library patrons
may access this database at home. Please call the library
at 1-815-284-7261 for the authorization and password.
To place Interlibrary Loan requests from home via
OCLC-First Search enter the Authorization and Password and proceed as
explained above.

Illinois
Periodicals Online (IPO)
Illinois Periodicals Online (IPO) is a project of the
Northern Illinois University Libraries, DeKalb, Illinois. To
date, the IPO project has reached agreement with ten journals:
Illinois Country Living, Illinois Heritage, Illinois History : A
Magazine for Young People, Illinois History Teacher, Illinois Issues,
Illinois Municipal Review, Illinois Parks & Recreation, Outdoor
Illinois, Point of View, and Prairie Farmer. The goal is to scan
a magazine's entire backrun up to the current time.

MEDLINEplus Health Information
MEDLINEplus will direct you to information to help
answer health questions. MEDLINEplus brings together, by health topic,
authoritative information from NLM, the National Institutes of Health
(NIH), other government, non-profit and other health-related
organizations. Preformulated MEDLINE searches are included in
MEDLINEplus and give easy access to the medical research literature.
It also provides you with a database of full-text drug information and
an illustrated medical encyclopedia.

NoveList (within the library)
NoveList is a fiction database that provides subject heading
access, reviews, annotations, and much more for over 125,000
fiction titles. It also includes other content of interest to
fiction readers, such as Author Read-alikes, What We’re Reading,
Book Discussion Guides, BookTalks, and Annotated Book Lists.
